Dealing with the loss of a child is by all accounts is the most difficult tragedy a parent can ever face. I watched the terrible pain that my father and step-father endured when my little brother lost his life to sudden brain aneurysm. He died on his fifth birthday. Today we conducted our yearly audit of our recycling program and learned that we received and recycled over 10,000 pounds of Christmas lights. The program was set to conclude yesterday but because of the consistent number of submissions we are receiving and regular inquiries we have decided to continue the program indefinitely. HolidayLEDs.com, an e-commerce company located in Jackson, Michigan announced today that it will sponsor the Lexington, Kentucky Fraternal Order of Firefighters 2009 Toy Drive and holiday lighting display.

For over 75 years the Lexington, Kentucky Fraternal Order of Firefighters has been operating a holiday toy drive to collect toys to give to needy children at Christmas time. The program has been a great success each year. Last year the Lexington FOF provided toys and gifts for over 2000 families in the Lexington area.

Home Depot recently concluded its Christmas light recycling program. Participants of the program were given a coupon for $3 off LED Christmas lights at the Home Depot. However, the program was apparently more successful than Home Depot anticipated. Many Home Depot area stores are completely sold out of LED Christmas lights and will not be receiving any more this year. Most Home Depot stores in Michigan and other areas around Michigan were especially effected.

I used to think that there were certain tasks that were so simple they really could not be screwed up and stringing lights on a Christmas tree seemed like one of those tasks.
