The city of Ghent lies nestled midway between Bruges and Brussels in Flemish Belgium. Much like many cities along the central northern coast of Europe, Ghent features a well-preserved glimpse into the middle ages, with much of its medieval architecture still intact and part of the today’s functioning city, such as Saint Bavo Cathedral, which was consecrated all the way back in 942 A.D.

According to Sparky the fire dog, at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), decorations are the first things to ignite in over 1,000 home fires each year. Autumn and Halloween decorations seem especially vulnerable, due to the tinder-like quality of dried foliage and flowers, combined with the use of candlelight to cast spooky shadows and keep a dark and haunting feel to the holiday.

LED rope light is one of the most versatile lighting solutions on the market today. The versatility of this lighting product is primarily the function of three product features: 1) It's very flexible – can be bent to form shapes or words; 2) It's small - 1/2" round unit evenly distributes a lot of light; and 3) It can be cut to custom lengths – must cut on specified cut marks. With bulbs spaced 1" apart, incandescent rope light consumed a lot of electricity and produced a lot of heat. The introduction of LED rope lighting made rope light a safer, and more economical lighting solution.

Cities are well aware that switching to LED lights in their holiday displays, office corridors, and streetlights can save lots of money. But here’s another surprising advantage: Police believe that the cooler, more focused light from LED streetlights, might actually help fight crime. That’s partly because some people who witness crimes at night can more accurately report details, such as colors, under LED lights.

Battery-powered LED Christmas style lights are so energy efficient and transportable that people are finding more non-traditional uses for them all the time.
