Purple LED Buying Guide
Purple LED Christmas Lights have become very popular in the last several years. We receive several inquiries each and every month wanting to know which Purple LED Christmas light bulb is the “truest” purple. There has been much discussion between employees and customers over this very question.
In order to answer which bulb style gives off the “truest” purple light we need to look at what colors make up purple. The color purple is comprised of the primary colors of red and blue. Therefore a “true” purple is going to be equal parts red and blue. This being said, most of the questions we receive are of this nature- Is it bluish? Are they reddish? Closer to pink? We have an answer!
The process of treating LEDs for color has not been perfected when it comes to the color purple. Due to this fact, the bulb shape plays a major role in attaining a true purple. Let’s discuss bulbs styles and shapes. The most popular style is the Wide Angle LED Christmas bulb. This is a 5mm conical bulb that was specifically designed for the LED. Next, the Mini LED Christmas Light bulb shape is the one most people are familiar. This mini light is approximately 3/4" in length and 1/8" in diameter. The third most popular bulb is the C6 Strawberry Christmas LED. This is a larger bulb than mini at approximately 1” in length and ½” at its widest point at the base.
The Wide Angle LED Christmas Light style tends to give off the truest colors when it comes to blue, red, green and even white. But when it comes to purple, the light can look a little pink and a little blue depending on the angle you are viewing it. This is because it uses a chip that produces a mix of red and blue, not a perfect purple.
The Mini style bulb consistently has a blue color to it. This is because of the size and shape of the bulb is tall and skinny. The base looks reddish while the actual bulb looks blue. The mini bulb, depending on the viewing angle, does produce an overall deeper purple.
The best bulb for a “true” purple LED Christmas light set is the C-6 Strawberry LED Christmas Light . This is because the LED inside is farther from the actual bulb and the color treatment of the bulb is able to blend the colors together. The “Truest” purple LED Christmas Light is C-6 style.
While shopping for purple LED Christmas Lights keep in mind the above information. It can help when deciding which bulb you would like to use for your Purple Light display. One last note, purple is a difficult color to get exactly perfect. So somebody's bluish purple may be somebody else’s “True” purple. Remember they are just lights, Have Fun!
